The Town of Palm Beach Shores is seeking skilled and qualified individuals for full-time employment as

a Firefighter / Paramedic with the Town’s Fire Department.



Employees in this classification are responsible for the protection of life and property through

firefighting, rescue, fire prevention, and Paramedic activities. Work involves providing rescue, first aid,

cardio- pulmonary resuscitation services and prompt attention at the emergency scene for purposes of

managing and stabilizing the critically ill and injured. Employee may also drive, operate and maintain

Fire Rescue vehicles and equipment.

Essential Functions:

• Engages in firefighting duties

• Responds to fire and emergency alarms and requests for assistance

• Performs routine firefighting duties and maintenance work on fire apparatus, vehicles, tools,

equipment and at fire station

• Provides basic and advanced life support medical care (non-transport)

• Participates in departmental classes, meeting, drills and training, as required

• Operates a variety of equipment including firefighting equipment, extrication equipment, hand

and power tools

• Drives and operates fire apparatus

• Participates in public education, fire prevention, and community risk reduction activities

• Complies with established policies, procedures, and Standard Operating Guidelines for efficient

and effective fire department operations

• Maintains personal and communal fire house living space

• Performs any other related work as required.

Individuals must meet the following minimum requirements at the time of application:

1. Be at least 18 years of age

2. High School Diploma or GED.

3. Florida Firefighter II certification or National Pro-Board Firefighter II rating or equivalent.

Successful candidates must obtain Florida Firefighter Minimum Standards Certification within

six months of employment.

4. National Registry Paramedic or Florida Paramedic certification. Successful candidates must obtain

Florida Paramedic certification within 60 days of employment.

5. Current BLS Healthcare Provider or Professional Rescuer CPR certification.

6. Current AHA ACLS Provider certification.

7. Valid driver’s license at the time of application with a minimum of two years driving experience

and a satisfactory driving record.

8. Two years of validated experience in driving and operating an emergency vehicle in the

emergency mode.

• Letter from Department attesting to applicant’s driving history for apparatus equipped with

an attack or fire pump during a time period of not less than 2 years. NOTE: The experience

letter must be an original document, on official department letterhead, specify the apparatus type

per the application, signed in a contrasting color ink AND include a day time phone number for

the signing official. Photocopies or facsimiles will not be accepted.

9. Meet NFPA 1002-P (2014 Edition) Standard for Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator Professional

Qualifications for Pumper Apparatus OR

• Successful completion of FFP 1301 Fire Hydraulics.

• Successful completion of FFP 1302 Fire Apparatus and Equipment

• Valid license to drive apparatus equipped with a fire or attack pump in the jurisdiction

of affiliation.

• Emergency Vehicle Operator (39 hours) or equivalent (NFPA 1002, Chapter 4

Certification) OR

• Combination of a Recognized Pump Operator Course (36 Hours) or equivalent AND

Valid license to drive apparatus equipped with a fire or attack pump in the jurisdiction

of affiliation.

10. NIMS ICS 100, 200, and IS 700.



Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work. While performing the duties

of this job, the employee is regularly required to: remain stationary; position self-close to ground;

traverse to and from multiple areas and facilities; bend; sit; use hands to finger, handle, touch or feel;

reach with hands and arms; exchange information efficiently and effectively in fast-paced, loud

environment; and smell. The employee is occasionally required to: push; pull; kneel; crouch; crawl; or

swim. The employee must regularly lift and/or carry moderately heavy objects (20-50 pounds) and

intermittently lift, carry, push and/or pull heavier objects (100+ pounds). Specific vision abilities required

by this job include: near vision; mid-range vision; field of vision; color vision; peripheral vision; and

depth perception.
