The Future is “Brighter” in Palm Beach Shores

Town LED lighting upgrade begins July 11th

Palm Beach Shores, FL –  Beginning Monday, July 11, 2016, the Public Works Department will begin retrofitting the Town’s 70 watt Metal Halide bulbs to energy efficient 15 watt LED bulb with lightning surge protectors on each fixture.

The new LED bulbs will have the same candle lighting as the existing 70 watt bulbs. This was demonstrated by the sample LED bulbs that were installed in various locations throughout Town.  Current fixtures will be retrofitted with the LED’s using the existing 198 poles and lantern heads along the Town’s streets, therefore eliminating the electrical ballasts which will save repair expenses and man- hours. The LED bulbs have a five year warranty with an average life span of 50,000 hours, more than three times the current bulbs, and will minimize expensive maintenance costs and improve pedestrian safety. The LED lights will not only make the Town more attractive, but is also environmentally friendly.

“We are very excited to see the effects of this project,” said Alan Welch, Palm Beach Shores Public Works Director.  “Residents may not directly notice the change, but the financial savings will be quite substantial.”

The Town will use 55,503 Kilowatt hours less per year and save approximately $500 per month.

The total cost of this project is approximately $13,000.00.  The retrofitting project is expected to be completed on Saturday, July 16, 2016.

Residents and visitors are urged to exercise extreme caution as equipment may be in the right of ways and on the road while work is in progress.
